Sports King
The Sports King is a major NPC in Beastieball. He is the chairman of the Beastieball League.
Personality
The King doesn’t appear to take much seriously. He speaks casually, and acts very laid-back, but it becomes immediately apparent that he’s up to something. He’s very willing to bend, change, or break the rules of Beastieball and the League for the sake of a “good story,” which is something the player can offer to him. Indeed, it seems his primary, maybe only concern is the continued growth of the League and League Beastieball, at expense of others or nature and Beasties themselves, evidenced by his construction of a stadium in the Rutile Preserve.
Story
The player first meets the King before they enter their second Beastieball Center. He doesn’t introduce himself, but does inform the player that they can change their team’s name, before flying away in his rocket boots.
The King is seen spectating in the stands during the player’s third Ranked match. After their victory, he formally introduces himself to them and Riley. Riley tells him to call off the stadium project in Rutile, to which he responds he will... if the player can climb the ranks to top 100, compete in the Crown Series, and defeat the 7-time reigning champion Valerie Stride. He says that League Beastieball has needed a good story for a while now, and the player is just the thing he needs. After this exchange, Marlin says to not trust a word out of the King’s mouth, but Riley suggests they just go with it to save the preserve.
The player will encounter the King again the next time they try entering a Beastieball Center. He commends them on continuing to climb up the ranks, and reminds them to simply do as they’re told, as they’re a part of his plans to make this season the best in League Beastieball history.
The King will once again be spectating the player’s fourth Ranked match. After their victory, during the rank-up sequence, the King will skew their rank, rocketing them up to rank 168. he will commend them on the “good beastieball,” saying that he suspects they’ll reach top 100 in no time.
He then introduces them to Barnes McBride, the #3 ranked coach in the league. He positions McBride as the player’s rival, someone who’s “good but not TOO good,” much to the latter’s chagrin. When he sets them up with a match, however, he decides to change the rules of the game, making all damage completely random. After their match, he’ll say it’s the beginning of a “beautiful rivalry,” and a “new era of Beastieball,” before McBride points out that completely randomized damage is terrible. The King simply says he’ll continue tinkering with the rules, and after McBride leaves, he does too.

Trivia
- In the Jasper Mines, Gene will give the player an item called the King’s Letter. As the name implies, it is a letter from the Sports King denoting someone of great importance.
