Relationships

From Beastiepedia: The Beastieball Wiki

Relationships are bonds that form between Beasties that are active in matches together for a while. There are four types of bonds: Besties, Partners, Rivals, and Sweethearts. Bonded Beasties can use a special combo move together, unique to the pair of Beasties and their relationship.

It’s currently unknown how the type of relationship is determined, though head developer Greg Lobanov has confirmed that they are heavily influenced by actions taken in games[1].

Besties

(in game quote here)

Besties are strong friends. Their combos can be either Defense or Support moves. Besties with a Support combo may develop their relationship into Sweethearts.

Rivals

(quote)

Rivals are Beasties engaged in a rivalry, with both pushing the other to be better. Their combos are Attack moves.

Partners

(quote)

Partners are Beasties that help each other, similar to work partners. Their combos are Volley moves.

Sweethearts

Sweethearts are Beasties in a romantic relationship with each other. Their combos are Support moves. They can develop from Besties with Support moves, or on their own.

Trivia

  • The four types of bonds may be inspired by Troll romance in Homestuck. Sweethearts share similarities to Matesprits or the Flushed quadrant, Besties to Moirails or the Pale quadrant, Rivals to Kismeses or the Calignous quadrant, and Partners somewhat resembling the Ashen quadrant.
