Legend of Office

From Beastiepedia: The Beastieball Wiki

Legend of Office (Japanese: オフィスの伝説 Ofisu no Densetsu) is a fictional JRPG that exists in the world of Beastieball. This article compiles all we know about the game.

Story

The story begins with the player being hired the same day as Midori, the player's best friend. After solving some office-related puzzles, the all-hands meeting will begin.

During the all-hands meeting, Midori is instead given the promotion the player was trying to get. This removes Midori from your party, and begins the first boss: the Department Head.

After defeating the Department Head, Midori rejoins your party, acting noticeably different than she did before.

History

Legend of Office was released a significant number of years before the story of Beastieball. It was originally released in Japanese, and later gained an official English version.

Localization

However, this English release is the source of many controversies within the fanbase, and remains generally unpopular among fans.

Most notably, the English localization changed the gender of the protagonist from female to male. In the original Japanese version, the protagonist was named Sarari (さらり). In the English version, this was switched to Jerry.[1]

Reception

Legend of Office was poorly marketed on release, and had little commercial success.

In recent years, however, there has been a resurgence in the fanbase and a growing online community for Legend of Office. It is now seen as a classic JRPG among many video game fans.

Relevance in Beastieball

SPOILER WARNING
This section contains endgame spoilers for Beastieball! Consider yourself warned.

Riley is a big fan of Legend of Office, and asks to play it with the player in multiple of her hangouts. The game content during these hangouts, as well as some of Riley's dialogue, foreshadows major plot points in Beastieball. Particularly, the relationship between the player and Midori in Legend of Office closely mirrors that of the player and Riley.

The game introduces both pairs as best friends, who have known each other for a long time. Midori steals the player's promotion in Legend of Office, similar to how the player in Beastieball becomes the sole coach of Rutile.

Later in the story, Midori becomes a rival and even ends up fighting against the player. This mirrors how Riley becomes a rival as well, taking up the position of Jack.

Before the final boss, the player can choose either to forgive Midori or leave her. This also parallels the scene after the fight with Riley, where the player must choose either to let Riley play in the Crown Series, or to do it themselves.

Finally, Jack's costume is at least partially based on Midori's demon form, according to Riley.
