"The vibration of their belly drum promotes the growth of plants. Their habitats are always lush and overgrown." —Beastiepedia
Bongus is a Beastie. They metamorph from Sprecko at Rutile Nature Preserve.
They and their fellow metamorphs of Sprecko have an Extinct form, Shloom, which they can achieve by communing with three mushroom colonies.
Biology
Bongus is a large, bipedal, reptilian Beastie. They have yellow-tan skin with stripes of brown across their arms, neck, knees, and tail, and brown patches on their hands and toes. They have a large belly with a target-like shape on it, comprised of lighter tan, brown, and red stripes. Their eyes have irises that match the color of the berries of the Sprecko they metamorphed from, and they have a short snout with red heart-shaped frills on their cheeks. Atop their head is what resembles an earthstar, with a light tan dumpling-shaped center and brown petal-shaped growths on the outside. Additional curly light tan growths that resemble hair hang down in front of their face and behind their head. Their tail is thick and tapering, with another earthstar at its tip.
In Bongus's Raremorph form, their skin and features become yellow-green, and their cheek frills and the red rings on their belly become pink.

Trivia
- Bongus's internal name is "shroom_b". It also has an old internal name, "tree_b", which may imply a different design theme.
- Some of this original "tree" concept can be seen in the concept art for its Extinct form.
- Bongus could first be seen barely out of frame in a piece of concept art in Surgus's Beastiepedia entry in the October 2024 Closed Playtest.
Origin
Bongus is based on a gecko. Their fungal features appear to be based on Geastrum mushrooms, also known as earthstars.
Name origin
Bongus may be a combination of bongo and fungus.
