Rutile is a town in Amberstone. It is home to The Rutile All-stars. It is also adjacent to the Rutile Nature Preserve.

Description

Rutile is a small town surrounded by cliffs. The ground is made up primarily of dirt with sparse tufts of grass, and there are some trees and bushes around. There are six buildings including the Beastieball Center and the Railhouse. The eastern boundary of the town has a set of railroad tracks leading south. The town has exits to the north, west, south, and southeast. The northern exit leads to Jasper while the other exits lead to Beryl.

There is a scale model of the Rutile Nature Preserve in the form of a rock garden at the center of town. It has a sign detailing the importance of the reserve and displaying some of its Beastie inhabitants. These are Sprecko, Sefren, Collarva, and Platenna.

Rutile is home to many characters, such as the player, Riley, Marlin, and some minor characters.

Story

After finding out the Nature Preserve is in danger, the player rushes to Rutile to confront Marlin, the head coach. Although he was once the Champion, Marlin's league standings have seen better days, and he and the townspeople know it. Without a high standing, Marlin and the town of Rutile have little say in how the League operates. However, Riley suggests that a new coach, such as the player, could step in and bring Rutile's rank back up, allowing them to convince the League to stop the construction in the Preserve.

Trivia

  • Rutile is named after a mineral by the same name. It can often be found in the form of small needles within other gems, which causes an optical phenomenon called asterism. Asterism is characterized by star-shaped light reflected or refracted by a gemstone. Gems that have this quality are known as "star" gems. Despite the chemical impurity of star gems, they tend to be more valuable than regular gems.
    • The Rutile All-stars' name could be related to the asteriating property of rutile, although it is unclear whether the town name or team name was decided upon first.
  • The Beastie drawings on the sign at the center of town are from their respective concept art sheets.
    • The art used for Platenna is noticeably of an earlier design which has not been updated as of the June 2024 Playtest Preview. This may be an artistic decision.
